Philip-Michael F. Tangorra

This is a very enlightening post. There is alot to wrap one's mind around, thank God I studied this already in College, otherwise I think I might have become lost.
The argument for Intelligent Design(ID) is a very good one. I do not disagree with it, and I am not going to take time to discuss it further. I am going to raise the further point that was mentioned and truly does need to be raised. Namely the fact that Public, and unfortunately Catholic, Schools do not take the time to teach Intelligent Design. But this problem is much deeper rooted, than not teaching ID, there is no Philosophical education for any students, unless they choose to take an elective at a Catholic High School or College.
Why is this? The Nativists. The anti-Catholic forefathers of America. Why do Protestants fail to understand the Theological teachings of the Church, and the great Mysteries? They write off Philosophy as the bride of Evil, instead of the Handmaiden of Theology, as it is most properly. They enter into a rationalistic heresy, that emphasizes the empirical sciences, but is devoid of the philosophical implication one's "scientific" postulations hold. This is how abortion is able to be upheld by law. The empirical "knowledge" shows that there is life, but cannot prove personhood. That is because personhood is a philosophical and in some ways psychological question, but those who see philosophy as the tool of an evil Church that is trying to inflict it's control from 4,000 miles away, choose to remain blind to the philosophical truths of the personhood of a fetus.
The problem of not educating our children in philosophy, leads to further problems for those who try to uphold their faith but are not able to reconcile it with their rational selves. When one is then presented with a question of theological, moral or social teaching held by the Church, one cannot speak eloquently on these issues when the other person, ask questions involving rationalization of these teachings.
This is because, there is no understanding Theology without an understanding of Philosophy, and the theological teachings of the Catholic Church are deeply rooted in philosophy; therefore one without a philosophical education can not defend the theological teachings that are so deeply rooted in phiosophy, i.e. the Eucharist, Moral Teaching, etc... One cannot understand ID, without first understanding it's philosophical pre-suppositions. Public schools, through anti-catholic legislation, such as the Blaine Ammendments, have created a rift greater than any debate in Faith and Reason in the education of our Children, by not allowing our Youth to enter into thoughts that may lead to philosophical and theological discourse.
There would be no debate about whether or not ID should be taught in the schools, if people were able to realize the great educational void in our countries public schools, by not teaching philosophy and allowing our children to think, and come to their own philosophical conclusion, enter into a real enlightenment, which is all inclusive of a well rounded education. The big push in public schools these days is "Critical Thinking." Every text book has a critical thinking section for every chapter and homework assignment, but the schools don't really want our children to think critically, they want them to come to the same half-witted conclusion that have been coming through the systems from generation to generation. Free thinking is squashed. Our great thinkers and inventors in our country have become scarce, because we do not allow for truly free, and critical thinking. Our great minds are all seen in history books, not writing books as we need.
The gap of faith and reason is only made wider by the ignorance of our countries educators, and our children are the one's suffering for this. Instead of receiving a well-rounded education, where all the theories and philosophical thoughts are presented and allowed to be thought through by our children, we feed them the mold that America wants, a mold founded by our ignorant fathers: the Nativists, the Masons, and the Klans Men, and all others alike; a mold that will safegaurd against true knowledge, because philosophy is that evil tool of Catholic Theology, and God forbid someone realize the truth, because then they would become Catholic.
The fear of those who established this ignorance in our school system is the fear that people would realize the errors of these fathers, such as the Nativists, who by the way were nicknamed "The Know Nothings," and the fear that people would discover the truth and that that truth would lead to Catholic Christianity.
